Hi once again my pretties!
It’s been a while since my last post but since I’m officially on holidays now, I’ve got no longer got an excuse not to post more often. For those of you in Melbourne, you may just have headed back to work after a sneaky (or not so sneaky) 4 day weekend, courtesy of the Melbourne Cup.. and for those of you who live outside of Melbourne, let’s celebrate the fact that we made it through half the week to Humpday – you may have noticed that I’ll use any excuse to celebrate really..
I decided to do this post in spirits of the spring racing season that’s currently underway. Despite never having actually been to a spring racing event – I absolutely love it when this time of year comes around every time. The effort and dedication that goes into putting together some people’s race day outfits truly astonishes me and I really admire it. I love looking through the galleries of bright colours and striking fascinators that are seen at each of the events and wondering what I would possibly wear myself if I was to ever attend. Which has brought me to the promise I’ve made myself – that I will certainly find an occasion next November to get dressed up in race day attire (perhaps minus the fascinator) … maybe it’ll be a high tea, maybe a cruise out or maybe just a day to myself – I’ll take any reason to dress up to be honest.
For today’s look I decided to channel my inner Kate Middleton because I adore her gorgeous yet sophisticated and conservative style. Though race day is typically used to splurge to designer brands and expensive pieces, I thought I’d stick to the everyday brands that we all know and love such as Forever New, Target, Lovisa and even Big W – you’d be surprised at how capable you are of putting together a great outfit from these brands. The dress that I’ve worn here is one from several seasons ago from Target and it’s a semi fitted tea dress with a floral print on a clean white background. I loved how sweet and simple the dress was and how easy it was to highlight the blue tones in the dress with cobalt heels from Big W and a bright blue crossbody from Charles and Keith. I paired the dress with simple gold and blue accessories from Forever New, Lovisa and Bevilles ..and of course my ever favourite Emporio Armani watch. The Charles and Keith bag was one that I spotted in the window while I was in Malaysia (since we dont have C&K in Melbourne) and given my fondness of bright colours, I just couldn’t leave without adding that bright blue touch to my wardrobe.
When it comes to makeup I’m sure you’ve noticed by now that I’m not the most experienced or the most fond of it either (though I do love spending endless hours admiring the work of makeup artists on Youtube and Instagram). I’m the type of person that will find one lipstick I love and use it to death, hence why the only makeup product you’re seeing on me is the return of my favourite (and perhaps only) lipstick NARS Mysterious Red Velvet Lip Pencil.
All in all, I know this isn’t the typical extravagant race day outfit you’d spot in fashions on the field, but it’s my own simple take on it so I hope you enjoy it. And maybe (…just maybe) it might work as some inspo for your race day outfits for Stakes Day or Oaks Day which is coming up soon.. If you’re heading (or have headed) to the races this year I’d love to hear about your outfits or the brands you donned on the day, so please do comment below!
